2026-07-10 Daily Picks: WPS Comate, ModelScope, Volcengine

Three picks this week covering different angles of AI deployment in China: enterprise office AI, open-source model sharing, and cloud AI infrastructure.

WPS Comate

Kingsoft's upcoming enterprise AI office platform, positioned as an execution hub for internal AI workflows. Unlike most AI writing tools that stop at text generation, Comate connects chat logs, documents, meeting notes, and business systems, then takes action: creating tasks, scheduling meetings, triggering workflows. The three-pillar approach (token management, data linking, API integration) feels more practical than feature-bloated AI assistants. Expected to launch mid-July 2026.

ModelScope

Alibaba's open-source model community and one of China's largest AI model hubs. It hosts thousands of pretrained models spanning NLP, computer vision, speech, and multimodal tasks. Compared to HuggingFace, ModelScope has better Chinese language coverage and many domestic teams debut their models here first. You can run inference directly in the browser with no environment setup. Useful for AI prototyping and finding Chinese-language pretrained models.

Volcengine

ByteDance's cloud platform, growing fast in the AI infrastructure space. Its Ark platform aggregates ByteDance's own Doubao LLMs, Seedream image generation models (including the newly released Seedream 5.0 Pro), plus third-party open-source models. For smaller teams, the appeal is direct access to ByteDance's proprietary models without the overhead of training from scratch, at competitive pricing versus renting A100/H100 instances.
