Shitty is an open-source terminal emulator released in July 2026, built for low latency, fast startup and predictable resource use. It keeps terminal state on the CPU and renders cells with native compute backends: Vulkan on Linux, Metal on macOS. README benchmarks show ~118 MiB/s ASCII throughput (1.2x alacritty), with an even bigger edge on random bytes. More than 5,000 tests harvested from a dozen suites (kitty, esctest, xterm vttests, etc.). macOS and Linux, MIT/GPL-3.0 dual license.
